Residential eating disorder treatment at Eating Disorder Treatment Centers (EDTC) is billed per day, and what you actually pay depends on two things: how long you stay (most women stay 30 to 90 days) and what your insurance covers. Most of our clients use commercial insurance, which typically covers a substantial portion of care once the deductible is met. Private-pay rates and payment plans are available for women without coverage. Before anyone admits, we verify benefits for free and provide a written estimate of out-of-pocket costs, so there are no surprises. Start with the form below or call (985) 261-3382.
What Determines the Cost of Eating Disorder Treatment
Five factors drive the cost of care at any residential eating disorder treatment center:
- Level of care. Residential treatment (ASAM Level 3.7), with 24-hour nursing, medical oversight, supported meals, and daily therapy, costs more per day than partial hospitalization (PHP) or intensive outpatient (IOP), where clients go home at night. EDTC provides residential care and on-site medical detox, then refers clients to lower-cost step-down programs near home.
- Length of stay. Because residential programs bill per day, a 30-day stay costs roughly a third of a 90-day stay. Length of stay is determined by medical stability and clinical progress, and insurance reviews continue throughout treatment.
- In-network vs. out-of-network benefits. In-network care usually means lower deductibles and copays. Many plans still cover out-of-network residential treatment at a different rate, and single-case agreements can sometimes bring out-of-network care to in-network pricing.
- Your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. Once your plan’s out-of-pocket maximum is met for the year, covered care is paid in full. Clients who have already met part of their deductible often pay far less than they expect.
- Medical detox. Women who need medically managed withdrawal management (ASAM Level 3.7-WM) before residential treatment have those days billed at the detox level of care, which insurance also typically covers when medically necessary.
Paying With Insurance
Eating disorders are recognized medical and psychiatric diagnoses, and federal mental health parity law requires most health plans to cover their treatment on the same terms as other medical conditions. EDTC accepts most major commercial insurance plans. Our admissions team verifies your benefits for free, usually within one business day, obtains pre-authorization before admission, and manages continued-stay reviews with your insurer during treatment so that approvals never interrupt your care. If a plan initially denies coverage, we help with peer-to-peer reviews and appeals. Learn more about using insurance at EDTC.
Private Pay, Payment Plans, HSA and FSA
If you are without insurance or prefer not to use it, EDTC offers private-pay rates and flexible payment plans. Residential eating disorder treatment is a qualified medical expense, so health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA) can typically be applied to deductibles, copays, and private-pay costs. Our team walks you through every option and puts the numbers in writing before you make a decision.
What Is Included in the Cost of Residential Treatment at EDTC
The daily rate for residential care at EDTC includes 24-hour nursing and medical oversight, physician and psychiatric care, all meals and snacks with dietitian-led meal support, individual, group, and family therapy, wellness programming such as yoga and expressive arts, the family workshop, and discharge and aftercare planning coordinated with providers near your home. Prescription medications and certain outside medical services may be billed separately through your insurance.
