Women Come to EDTC From Across the Country
Eating Disorder Treatment Centers (EDTC) admits adult women from every state. Our residential eating disorder program is in Covington, Louisiana, about 45 minutes from New Orleans, and clients regularly travel from Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, and farther away, because dedicated residential eating disorder programs for women are rare in the Gulf South. Every part of the admissions process, from the clinical assessment to insurance verification and travel planning, is handled by phone before you leave home, and our team is available 24 hours a day at (985) 261-3382.
Getting to Covington, Louisiana
By air: Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is the closest major airport, about an hour from campus, with nonstop service from most large U.S. cities. Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT) are each about 90 minutes away. EDTC’s admissions team helps arrange ground transportation from the airport so you are not navigating the trip alone.
By car: Covington is just north of New Orleans across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, near the junction of Interstate 12 and US Highway 190. It is roughly 1 hour from New Orleans, 1 hour from Baton Rouge, 1.5 hours from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, 2.5 hours from Mobile, 3 hours from Jackson, Mississippi, 5 hours from Houston and Birmingham, and 6 hours from Memphis.
Insurance, Admission, and Aftercare for Out-of-State Clients
Insurance. Most employer-sponsored and marketplace health plans are national, so coverage for residential treatment at EDTC depends on your plan’s network and benefits rather than the state you live in. State Medicaid plans generally do not cover out-of-state residential care. EDTC verifies every plan, including out-of-state plans, for free before you travel and tells you exactly what to expect. Admission. After a confidential phone assessment and insurance verification, admission can usually be scheduled within a few days. We coordinate your arrival time, airport pickup when needed, medication and records transfer, and a packing list so the first day is as calm as possible.
Aftercare. Before discharge, EDTC builds an aftercare plan around where you live: a step-down program (PHP or IOP) or outpatient therapist, dietitian, and physician in your home area, a meal plan, and a relapse-prevention plan. Our team communicates directly with those providers so your care continues without a gap when you return home.
